American Kidney Fund (AKF)

American Kidney Fund (AKF) supports Million Hearts™ in its efforts to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes over five years. High blood pressure is the second most common cause of kidney failure, and AKF works to educate those with high blood pressure and other risk factors for heart disease on taking action to improve their health by making healthy food choices and being active to reduce their risk for heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. In 2011, AKF screened 22,000 individuals nationwide for kidney disease and its associated risk factors, including high blood pressure and cholesterol. AKF will continue to support Million Hearts™ through health education and prevention efforts related to high blood pressure and heart disease—two leading causes of kidney disease.
