The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is a national federation of 38 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. The Blues' commitment to the communities they serve reaches beyond healthcare coverage, extending to community outreach, education support and innovations across the country that collectively enable healthy living, improve healthcare access and advance healthcare quality and safety.

In Support of Million Hearts™

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are committed to working with HHS in this public-private collaboration to identify "Hypertensive Zones"—geographical regions where residents have a greater incidence of high blood pressure. BCBSA will coordinate efforts between The Blues® and HHS to work with local stakeholders in the Zones to develop targeted approaches to improve hypertension control.

The proposed project would include the following:

As additional support for Million Hearts™, BCBSA will collect and disseminate best practices from Blue companies to improve the "ABCS" (Aspirin when appropriate Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management, and Smoking cessation), use of health IT and team-based care, and other actions related to improved care and optimal health outcomes.
