InterHospital Physicians Association/Portland IPA (PIPA)

The InterHospital Physicians Association, also known as the Portland IPA (PIPA), is a for-profit corporation, incorporated in the State of Oregon. Portland IPA has been in existence since 1983. It is one of the largest and oldest independent practice associations in the United States. IPA represents over 1700 specialists in 87 specialties and 800 primary care providers, in family practice, internal medicine and pediatrics.

Mission: To support members with services and processes that improve their clinical and economic performance.

Vision: To be a connected community of diverse clinicians building collaborative relationships to improve population health.

Portland IPA supports the goal of the Million Hearts™ campaign to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the U.S. by 2017. Portland IPA will use its EMR-driven, population-based registry, built on ADA, ATP-III and JNC-7 evidence-based guidelines, to inform primary care practitioners about critical measures of process and outcomes. Portland IPA will also implement innovative models of care-delivery, such as Share Medical Appointments (SMAs) to educate patients about their disease and share strategies to improve treatment compliance.

PIPA will partner with Acumentra Health, Oregon's Quality Improvement Organization, to achieve these goals of practice transformation and patient education.
