Healthy is Strong Healthy is Strong

Strong men put their health first. Did you know that almost 50% of African American men have a risk factor—such as high blood pressure—that can lead to heart attack or stroke? Simple changes such as—taking medication as prescribed, healthy eating, getting regular exercise, and quitting smoking—can make a big difference in improving your health. Be strong! Staying healthy increases the chances you will be there for your loved ones for years to come.

Here are Some Simple Steps That You Can Take

  1. Talk to your health care team. Talk to your doctor and other health care professionals about how to prevent heart disease and stroke.
  2. Spread the word. Encourage your friends, family, and community to become healthier along with you.
  3. Learn more. Find out what puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke and what steps you can take to improve your heart health.
  4. Use social media to increase awareness. Strong men protect their future and the ones they love. Get the message out.

Talk to Your Health Care Team

Protect your future—and the ones you love—by starting or continuing a conversation with your health care professional (HCP) about heart disease. Consider using the following tools at your next office visit.

Spread the Word

You have the power to help those around you! As you manage high blood pressure or high cholesterol, you are learning valuable information about heart disease and healthy living that you can share with your friends, family, and community.

Ask your friends and family to make healthy changes with you. Challenge them to quit smoking, exercise more, and prepare meals with healthier ingredients. Talk about the importance of heart health when you see them at church, family reunions, or community events. Turn your next get-together into a HEALTHY GET TOGETHER!
